Summer 2021 is going to be lit. It’s also going to be really hot; it’s only June and we’ve already experienced 100℉ temperatures in LA. Thankfully my apartment has central AC and a pool, so I am looking forward to another summer cooling out at home. At least this year the time spent at home is by choice and not because of forced lockdowns. California finally reopened last week, and surely there are many things to do, but let’s face it, with these new variants roaming around it’s clear that Miss Rona is here to stay, so continuing to practice social distancing at home isn’t a bad idea.
I do plan to get out of the house here and there, but in reality it ain’t nothing out there in the streets. I have everything I need at home, I even work from home, which I hope becomes a permanent thing, so I’m not pressed to be “out” like that. I know that a homebody life isn’t for everybody, but it works for me. I like having the mental space to veg out, create, and set personal goals at my own pace, without external distractions.
It might not seem like it, but sometimes I need to socialize, so when I need to do so, I can go hiking, or to the gym. Or visit a local coffee shop, invite family and friends over for a potluck, or go visit a park or the beach together. I’ve mentioned before here that one of the things the pandemic showed me was that my main hobbies were going out to eat and drink, which is a huge drain on my bank account and something I didn’t even always enjoy. It’s nice to see and be seen at a swanky rooftop bar, but there’s nothing worse than spending $14 on a watered-down margarita (not including tip), especially when I can buy an entire bottle of tequila for the same amount.
