Remember dressing up and going out on new year’s eve? Like actually putting on an outfit, makeup, and heels? I haven’t done any of those things in several years, but even if I wanted to hit the town on NYE 2020, it is unimaginable in this day and age. One thing I can do is trade the XXL t-shirts I’ve been wearing around the house during quarantine for dressy pajamas for the holidays at home. This year my new year’s eve outfit idea is the comfortable, easy, and versatile black satin slip dress.
When I was in high school and college, satin tops and dresses were pretty popular (around the late 1990s/early 2000s). I loved the trend then and I have no qualms about loving it now. I used to find really lovely satin camisoles at thrift stores and wear them with blazers, little jackets, jeans or trousers, and heels. Last year I bought a short black satin slip dress from Amazon to layer underneath dresses for work. I haven’t been wearing actual outfits too much lately, but the simple slip dress is a comfy, “nice” new year’s eve outfit idea. Beyond that, I also like the idea of a midi or maxi satin slip dress layered over a t-shirt or under a plaid shirt/jacket with sneakers for a neo-grunge look. The perfect post-apocalyptic grocery shopping outfit!
