Fun times during my staycation: I decided to try a beer rinse for curly hair. Last Sunday morning, I almost threw out a half-finished beer from the night before. There was still quite a bit left, so I saved it from going into the garbage and used it as a clarifying rinse for my hair. Nothing goes to waste in my house without somehow getting reused 🙂

I’ve done beer rinses in the past, and have always been happy with the results. This time was no different. I did a bit of research and it turns out that beer is an awesome protein treatment for curly hair. It’s full of B-vitamins and protein that can make your hair stronger and shinier. It also adds volume to fine hair, so if big shiny curls are your goal, a beer rinse will help get you there. (source)
Note: use room temperature flat beer for the hair rinse.

Beer Rinse for Curly Hair
Ingredients
Lukewarm, flat beer
Cheap conditioner
Tools
Wide-tooth comb (or fingers) for detangling
Towel
Clips, if needed
My Process
I co-washed my hair with a cheap clarifying conditioner that I bought from Big Lots. Detangled the curls with my fingers, then a wide-tooth comb, and rinsed it out. Then I poured the beer over my hair, and massaged it into my scalp, letting it coat my ends. I squeezed it out a bit and let it sit on my hair for about 5 minutes. My hair got a little puffy during the wait time, I guess the beer was making my hair cuticles “swell”.Â
I rinsed out the beer and conditioned my hair again to cover the beer scent. After rinsing out the conditioner, I styled my hair into two flat twists and let it air dry.Â
I hope the beer rinse is helpful to you!
