Whenever possible, I like to find simple, natural solutions for personal care and home projects. In fact, that’s a major premise of this blog. With that in mind, I wanted to share with you a recipe for a DIY carpet powder made with baking soda and essential oils. I try lots of DIYs – some successful, others not so much. This one was successful, so it made it to the blog. 🙂
A little background…
I never use carpet sprinkles. It’s never on my household essentials shopping list and I usually don’t put anything on the carpet before vacuuming my apartment. I only decided to use carpet powder after honey bear moved in and suggested using it on a recent cleaning day. I didn’t have any sprinkles on hand since I don’t buy them, so I decided to try making it myself after researching homemade solutions. Look at me feeding my creativity, saving money and being environmental. #yougogirl
The recipe below is adapted from Mom4Real.com.
DIY carpet powder with essential oils:
1 – 1 1/2 cup baking soda
20-25 drops lavender essential oil
A container to store the mix (I used an old seasoning container to make it easier to distribute the sprinkles)
Mix baking soda and essential oils. I literally just put the baking soda inside the container, added the essential oil drops, put the top on and shook it to mix. The scent is heavenly…next time I will try making this with other essential oils like lemon, tea tree, peppermint, or rosemary.
* Make sure to label your solution so that you know it is!
Shake the powder over your carpet.
Let it set for 10-15 minutes and vacuum it up.
