Exfoliating is a must for treating dry, chapped skin. The homemade sugar scrub recipe I’m going to share with you today is a triple threat – perfect to use throughout the winter for sloughing away dead skin on the lips, hands and feet.
DIY Sugar Scrub Recipe:
To make the sugar scrub, all you need is sugar, honey, olive oil, and shea butter.
Melt the shea butter to a liquid form by placing the container in boiling hot water.
Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl.
The original sugar scrub recipe I referenced called for only one tablespoon of sugar. It turned out too runny, so I added another tablespoon.
Two tablespoons of sugar created a smooth, paste-like consistency.
The sugar scrub is ready to use on lips, hands and feet. It lasts 1-2 weeks.
- Cane sugar: 2 tablespoon
- Honey: 1 tablespoon
- Olive oil: 1 teaspoon
- Shea butter: 1 teaspoon
- Small container
In a small mixing bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon each of olive oil and melted shea butter. Stir until mixture becomes the consistency of paste.
How to Use
Using clean fingers, apply the sugar scrub to lips, hands or feet. Rub the scrub into the skin to exfoliate. Wipe the mixture away using a warm, wet towel. Seal lips with lip balm or vaseline to lock in moisture. Apply lotion or body cream to hands/feet.
Note: be sure to spot test the scrub before application. If you experience a reaction, rinse thoroughly and discontinue application.
